Story Time - A Thank-You to the Teachers

My youngest will be moving on to Kindergarten in the fall - so I wanted to give all the teachers at my kids' preschool a thank-you. This captures what story time generally looks like... I framed it and signed the matte and gave it to them today, since it's Teacher Appreciation Day. Thanks to them and to all you teachers out there.

IppSketches

I think pencil sketches reveal so much about how an artist thinks - finished cartoons and paintings and such are great, but the sketches are like a backstage pass. Here are a few quick Ipps.... click to see em bigger.

Shiny New GoComics

GoComics, the home of Brainwaves online, has been redesigned with various new bells and whistles - check it out!

GoComics has carried Brainwaves for a long time, over 5 years 6 days a week. That's a whole lotta cartoons. I really appreciate their support.

By the way, I hear that the emailed version of the cartoons is getting smushed into some rectangular shape for an unknown reason - I've alerted them that this is happening, so I hope the pixels get moved back to their proper places soon! But the cartoon looks just fine on the site.

I think online and phones and Kindles and such are the future of cartoons, particularly the single-panel type -- since they display the best and don't require you to scroll or anything. I'm hoping for a day when people can pull up one of my cartoons or a collection like I've got for Kindle, then turn around and send it to a friend to brighten their day. We're getting closer all the time!

Your call is important to us...

Ah yes, it's such fun to go back and look at the early ones.

I'm thinking of this one because I'm about to try to turn off two TiVo boxes. You see, I've upgraded to the monster big HD TiVo - which you would think is a good thing, but they really really want me to keep paying for service to the two smaller boxes that I'm not using. The whole DVR thing is pretty weird - you get a box, there's a number on it, there' s a service attached to the number... anyway, I'm going to dive into the great ocean known as Customer Service, and they are counting on me giving up and continuing to pay them. This is a Business Model.

UPDATE: That wasn't so bad! I retired Bruce and Bono and am keeping Gigantor. Yay for unexpectedly easy customer service experiences! I will continue to love TiVo.

5,000 Subscribers! It's 4-digit number week.

Yes, I've done my 2,000th cartoon and now passed 5,000 subscribers on GoComics. Not bad for a totally independent feature that I syndicate myself. Thanks to everyone on GoComics who has put me on their page. You are all fabulous.

Speaking of Fabulous:

Cartoon Number 2,000

Today I published Brainwaves cartoon number 2,000... here it is. It's been a fabulous ride so far, and I'm looking forward to 2,000 more... or, however many I can do before I run out of pens. Thanks everybody for reading!!!

Psych!

I have quite a few cartoons that appear in Psychology textbooks. It's a really, really niche market. This is one of them -- I've simply got to go read the chapters that these appear in. Not sure if this is being used to depict the problem, or the solution.

This one is also a good example of how, over the years, I have convinced myself that I am tweaking my drawing style, only to look back and see that it is just the same. At some point I had to say look, this is how I draw cartoons. So be it. Didn't the Mighty Thor say that? "So be it!!"

Old Pizza and Steak

Another oldie but goodie -- tooo bad there's not more food that needs to be thrown in the air when it's being prepared.
