The Inside Story: How to Screw Up a Cartoon

Every so often I draw a cartoon in which either something is left out, or messed up, or otherwise doesn't survive the trip from my pen to readers' eyeballs. Sigh.

This one was published this week - it is a caterpillar in bed for the night, having left a zillion bedroom slippers on the floor by the bed...

Which left everyone to wonder, "Why are there a bunch of ice cream cones stalking that sleeping bug?"

Ironically, I had redrawn it because I decided making the slippers fuzzy would make them more slipper-like. Who knew bedroom slippers were so open for interpretation.

So there you go. And if you prefer to see it as an invasion of ice cream cones, that's fine with me.
